I Know These Kids

I knew these kids

They had no fears

They ran into battle

Knowing that their chance of winning was hell’s chill

These kids were wild and these kids were free

And innocent as could be

They thought they knew the world

After all, they had it at their feet

I knew these kids

They hid their fears

They picked and chose their battles

Hoping hell would chill

These kids were mild and these kids were noble

And as ignorant as could be

They couldn’t figure out their world

It blurred below their feet

I knew these kids

They faced their fears

They took a break from battles

Hell hadn’t chilled

These kids were sore and suffering

And as disturbed as could be

They couldn’t find the world

It fell from their feet

I know these kids

They have no fears

They pick and choose their battles

Knowing hell won’t chill

These kids are wild and noble

And as woeful as can be

They no longer watch for the world

They have all they need
